Make sure the mention belongs to your brand.
Configure brand names, domains and aliases for AI answer analysis. Understand ambiguous names, saved brand context and the evidence behind each mention.
Terms in this guideBrand alias
- Brand alias
An alternate name identifying the same tracked product, such as an established abbreviation or older product name. Aliases help analyze saved responses; they are not automatically added to buyer questions. Generic category words and unrelated product names are unsuitable aliases.
Open glossary definition for Brand alias
Start with the product and its website.
Use the name buyers recognize and the website that identifies the product. In Echuno, competitor setup accepts a website URL or a domain and saves the domain. A specific product and its parent company can represent different buying choices; decide which one you want the evidence to describe.
For a fictional product called Northstar Metrics, northstarmetrics.example would identify the product more precisely than the word Northstar alone. A reference to a different company with a similar name should not become a mention of your product.
The analysis uses the tracked brand identity alongside the saved response. It still needs evidence in that response. A domain in the brand settings does not prove the provider linked to your website or recommended your product.
Back to guide contentsAdd alternate names that identify the same product.
Use Other names for genuine names buyers use for the same product: an established abbreviation, a recognizable shortened name or an older product name. Keep the set small enough to review. Echuno accepts up to 10 aliases, each up to 80 characters, separated by commas or new lines. Exact duplicates are saved once.
An alias should help identify the brand rather than broaden the category. Adding analytics, software or a competitor’s name would make the intended identity less clear. A short abbreviation shared by several products also needs careful evidence review.
Aliases are analysis context. They are not automatically appended to the question sent to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. To ask about a particular brand explicitly, write a separate branded question and keep that intent distinct from unbranded discovery.
Back to guide contentsCheck the quote and the surrounding answer.
Open a saved answer and read the evidence quote for the brand. Check whether the wording refers to the product you intended, and read the surrounding response for qualifiers. The analysis model can make mistakes; its label is a useful starting point for review.
A mention can be an incidental reference, a comparison or a caveat. It does not necessarily mean the product was recommended. Likewise, a source link can appear without a brand recommendation. Inspect the mention, any recommendation rank and the actual source separately.
If an answer uses a common word that also happens to be a brand name, the context matters. The word northstar in planning advice would not, on its own, establish a reference to the fictional Northstar Metrics product.
- Identity: does this refer to the intended product?
- Evidence: can you locate the quote in the saved response?
- Meaning: is it a recommendation, a comparison or a passing reference?
- Scope: which provider, date and question produced this answer?
Treat an identity change as a change in measurement context.
Changes to tracked names and aliases affect future answer analysis. Saved browser answers retain their original brand context, and their analysis uses that saved snapshot. Editing today’s alias list does not rewrite a past response or automatically replace its assessments.
Record why you changed an identity and when. Before comparing periods, inspect the saved context and assessed-answer counts. Adding a competitor or a new alias can change future measurement coverage without proving that a provider changed its recommendations.
For your primary brand, the editor directs name changes to Project settings and keeps its tracked website fixed. Review those constraints before treating an identity correction as a new project or changing your question set.
Back to guide contentsReview a few answers before expanding the set.
Start with a small group of buyer questions and a few relevant competitors. Collect answers, then inspect at least one clear mention, an ambiguous reference if one appears, and an answer with no recorded mention. Separate missing assessments from assessed absences.
Use what you learn to refine the identity fields for future collection. Keep changes deliberate and preserve the supporting answers. A well-defined brand set and readable evidence make a comparison more useful than a long alias list alone.
